Vizio, Inc is best known for manufacturing and selling inexpensive Smart TVs. Unfortunately, they are now also known for the privacy violations these “smart” TVs are capable of.
A lawsuit filed in February 2016 alleges that these televisions are collecting and selling “personally identifying information” to third parties such as advertisers and data brokers. The information collected “identifies a person as having obtained or requested specific video materials or services” through its Smart Interactivity software. This data is then used to push targeted ads to any electronic device using the same internet connection.
Would you have purchased your Vizio Smart TV had you known it would be used to collect personal information without your consent?
We at Pirl wouldn’t.
